Barbara Tyrell recorded the life, customs and clothing of many South African and sub Saharan tribes. She developed her classically drawn, water colour paintings and became justly famous for these decades of work. When she had her 100th birthday, the Cape Town Gallery celebrated her monumental contribution to South African culture. I was fortunate to visit Cape Town at this time and bought this specially prosuced folio., no 235 / 500. Works are dated originally for 1949,1951, 1961. The Folio is a substantial piece of work in itself in providing full background text of each of the four works. Each one, or as a set of four would be a drawcard artwork.
